Outdoor portrait of Algonquin woman Mrs. David Manatc seated under a tarp splitting spruce root (watap) for use in making a canoe, wearing a long fabric dress and plaid shirt or jacket, and a head scarf. Dug and split for sewing canoes at cuts and sewing gunwales. The canoe was probably made at David Makokus landing on Barrière Lake (Lac-Barrière), Quebec. See also N15020 - N15028. It is also possible that this is mis-identified and the woman in actually Suzanne Maranda.
